XEROX

Our appreciation goes to Jasmin and everybody at Xerox for printing our Annual Report. It looks stunning. This report serves to provide essential information to the public, our members, sponsors and donors each financial year, and is an important component of all our fundraising proposals.  It  is the 9th report that has been printed totally free of charge by our friends at Xerox. Thank you. You have made a difference in the lives of a lot of elderly over the years and we trust that you will continue to do so for many more years to come.

THE NEW MOUNT PLEASANT SPAR AND MOUNT PLEASANT PRIMARY SCHOOL

Thank you SPAR Mount Pleasant for the wonderful morning some of our Buffelsfontein residents spent at your Opening last Saturday. They had a marvelous time. They were transported to and from the event by the Principal of Mount Pleasant Primary School and each provided with a pupil to escort them and carry their parcels. Thank you so much for donating the goods from the one trolly in the trolly dash to the Eleanor Murray Service centre.

THE MRS PORT ELIZABETH 2008 PAGEANT

Our gratitude also goes to Juanita Steyns and the 19 Mrs Port Elizabeth 2008 finalists for all their hard work in raising funds leading up to the finals on Saturday 9 August 2008. Due to a huge donation of eggs, bread, mielie meel and raisins we were able to treat the old folk at al three our service centres to a sumptous women's day breakfast.   The raisins and eggs were also utilised to make delicious bread pudding which was enjoyed by everyone.

MUSIKLAND PUTS THE MUSIC BACK INTO THE LIFE OF AN OLDER PERSON

In association with Yamaha SA, Zelda Downey a Mrs Port Elizabeth finalist and Musikland's Brian Kreusch and Alette Bosch donated a Yamaha keyboard with all the trimmings to an ecstatic Leatitia Minnie (64) who resides at our Cuylerholme Rooms. It has enabled her to practice her passion for music and has given her a new lease on life. Zelda also arranged for a second Keyboard donated by Humantouch, to Cuylerholme Rooms Service Centre to utilise during the events that are arranged for service centre members as part of the monthly activity programme.

BRIDGESTONE SA DEMONSTRATES THAT THEY NOT ONLY HAVE A PASSION FOR EXCELLENCE BUT A PASSION FOR THE SAFETY OF THE ELDERLY IN THEIR COMMUNITY

Delighted elderly Eleanor Murray Service Centre members took delivery of the brand new tyres donated to them by Bridgestone SA. They were truly touched that Bridgestone SA was so concerned about their well being and told Meryl Coetzee and David Hird from Bridgestone SA just how much the outings on the bus means to them. Not only does this mode of transport enhance their social lives it is often the only way that they can get to the shops to do their shopping.  Maintaining the bus and keeping it totally roadworthy is high on the priority list of Algoa Bay Council for the Aged and assistance from companies like Bridgestone is therefore all the more appreciated.

Bridgestone SA have since fitted two more new tyres to the bus. Just in time for the annual Cuylerholme Rooms Nanaga trip which is much looked forward to by the elderly residents residing there.  Added to this Bridgestone SA have decided to adopt the bus by taking care of it's tyre requirements for the rest of it's lifetime. NOW THAT'S WHAT WE CALL A PASSION FOR EXCELLENCE.  THANK YOU BRIDGESTONE SA

THANK YOU SESEGO, ABSA AND ROTARY INTERNATIONA...

For caring enough to lend a hand and change the lives of two older persons at Buffelsfontein Village. Mrs Grauso and Mrs Watkins, both residents at Buffelsfontein Village,  were the grateful recipients of a wheelchair each via ABSA's Sesego & Rotary International mobility project. This donation has changed their lives, increased their mobility and made it possible for them to remain active and independent in the familiar surroundings of Buffelsfontein Village

THANK YOU MIRACLE MEALS AND MOUNT PLEASANT SPAR

A very excited and thankful Vuyo took delivery of chicken pieces and meaty bones donated by Miracle Meals and cake  sponsored by Mount Pleasant SPAR. Vuyo runs a soup kitchen in Walmer Gqebera. She provides meals for TB patients who cannot take their medication on empty stomaches and hot soup for older persons living in the Walmer Gqebera area. The meal is also an incentive for the TB patients to keep coming back in order to fully recover from the illness by completing the course. Vuyo and the old folk from Walmer Gqebera are members of the Eleanor Murray Service Centre. They are included in outings and other service centre acitivites and  very enthusiastically participate in the skills development project on  Wednesday mornings.

THANK YOU PAULA, CHECKERS, THE PIEMAN AND LE BON BAKERY FOR A WONDERFUL GRANDPARENTS DAY CELEBRATION

Mrs Port Elizabeth 2008, Paula Duffy played host at a tea for 150 older persons from Algoa Bay Council for the Aged to celebrate Grandparents Day.  Part of the proceedings included handing out certificates and medals to those older persons who participated in the ACVV Sports Day and the Golden Games in Cape Town.

Paula ensured that there was more than enough to eat by arranging for donations from Checkers, The Pieman and Le Bon Bakery. Jurie Smit entertained with songs from yester year and a great time was had by all, despite the pouring rain which came down in buckets just as all the old folk arrived.

THANK  YOU SHARWOODS SPEEDY NEWTON PARK

Bridgestone arranged with Sharwoods Speedy Newton Park to donate the fitting and balancing of the tyres for our bus. This they duly did and the bus is sporting six brand new balanced tyres. Just in time for the annual roadworthy which enabled the Traffic Department to give our bus a clean bill of health. Thank you Richard and everybody at Sharwoods Speedy for agreeing to partner Bridgestone SA by taking care of the fitment requirements of the bus for the rest of its lifetime.
